How do I add my company to Businessmagnet?
Adding a company to Businessmagnet is very easy. Every page on
Businessmagnet has links at the top right of the site in a grey lined box titled
Account Log In or on the left under My Businessmagnet. You can register a
company by following the register my company link. Here you can enter all the
necessary details to get your complimentary listing up and running.

What happens once I have added my company?
Once you have added a company to Businessmagnet we will look over the
details you have supplied to ensure it meets our criteria. When we are happy
with what you have submitted we will publish your listing on the directory. You
may receive a phone call from us to confirm everything is to your satisfaction.

I've added my company, how long will it take to appear on the
directory?
Once we have accepted and confirmed your application for a free
listing we will then submit your details to the directory. Your free
listing will be fully functional within 48hrs of confirmation providing it meets
our criteria. You
will be able to find your company listed under your chosen products
and services in the indexes as well as other location indexes and
our search facility.

I made a mistake when adding my company, how can I correct it?
When you register a company with Businessmagnet, you create an account which
you can access whenever you need to make a change or correct a mistake. Every
detail submitted by you can be edited using your controller log in.

My company details are incorrect or need amending, how can I do
this?
If for some reason the details displayed for your company on Businessmagnet
are incorrect, maybe due to a change of address, new phone number etc, you can
log in to your account and make the corrections. If you haven't got an account
for your company but it is still displayed on Businessmagnet, you can become the
controller of your company by following the link on your company page or by
registering and existing company at the log in screen. If you have any problems

Can I add a small description to my free listing?
Yes you can. We believe that adding a small description to your
free listing helps the buyer or specifier to better understand your
company. Due to the nature of our search engine, a small description
will also improve the performance of your free listing. You may use
up to 400 Characters to describe your business, any description that
exceeds this limit will be automatically limited by our
programs so please ensure that you stay within this limit to ensure the
description does not need to be re-written to make sense. To help
you stay within the 400 character limit there is a character counter next to the
description editor in your company profile that will wanr you of excessive
characters when you submit.

What are keywords and what do they do?
A keyword or Key phrase is a word or string of words that
identify a product or service a company supplies. A free listing
allows a company to use 5 keywords or phrases that will be
used to categorise your business type to allow a potential customer
to find what they are looking for quickly. Paid for options with
Businessmagnet allow a far greater number of keywords or phrases
which will give your company a greater coverage on the directory and
subsequently more sales enquiries.
It is important to choose keywords that best describe your business
type accurately. For instance, a Financial Consultant may opt to
choose the word 'Finance' or 'Finance Company' but this really does
not describe what they offer...a better term to use would be
'Financial Consultants' or even 'Financial Services'. This gives the
potential customer a better chance of finding exactly what they are
looking for first time.
Don't be too broad with your key words, for e.g. a company supplying
a roofing service should use a term 'Roof Fitters' or 'Roof
Installations' not 'Construction' as this would give the potential
customer a very poor understanding of your business type and will
very likely result in smaller number of enquiries.

Can I use my own keywords?
You can request new keywords. To request new keywords click the request new
keywords link underneath the keyword tool available once you have logged in. We
don't always approve new keywords, we usually decline manufacturer names and
will always decline part numbers. If we strongly believe there to be a keyword or phrase
that will yield better results we may change it on your behalf.

My Company is outside of the UK, can I still have a free listing?
Unfortunately we do not accept free entries from outside
of the UK. Businessmagnet is a UK Business to Business directory and
we will only promote free entry companies from the UK. We
do however allow companies from outside of the UK to
advertise using one of our enhanced packages which can be very
effective in attracting UK business.

Can I add more than 1 Company?
Providing you are authorised to do so you may add as many
companies to the directory as you like. Multiple companies can be added using
your controller log in. Each company can be edited just the same way as the
first company you add. Each company will need to
meet our criteria and the details confirmed with you by phone for
security before they are displayed on the Businessmagnet directory.
It is also useful to know that discounts are available on multiple
paid for inclusions.

Why do I have to supply a unique description for my free listing?
When you add a company to Businessmagnet, you are required to
add a small description about your business and it's services or
products. We ask that this content is unique and does not appear on
any other website including your own. Many search engines filter
duplicate content from their results so it is important to supply a
unique one. If a unique description is not supplied our editors may
remove your entry. The description need only be a few lines so
should only take a minute of your time, even if you are a one finger
typist!

Do I have to display my fax number?
You do not have to display your fax number. Although
Businessmagnet has been constructed to deter canvassers we also
understand some companies may want to limit the number of places
their fax number appears to reduce the possibility of fax spam.

Will my company details be distributed to other companies?
No. Businessmagnet will not supply any company with your details
other than that of how the directory is intended to be used. They
will be used solely for The Businessmagnet Directory and not be
supplied or sold to any third party.

How do I find a company using the search facility?
Finding a company is easy. Simply enter the company name in the
search field and click submit. You will then be presented with a list
of results. In the case of a company name, it is likely the required
company will be towards the top of the results. If the company has a
very broad or common name, it may be necessary to move through to
the next set of results by using the next page function below the
results list.

How do I find a company that supplies a specific product or service?
Simply enter the product or service you are looking for into the
search field and click submit. You will be presented with a number of
businesses that supply what you are looking for with the most
relevant towards the top of the results. The search facility has
records of all company keywords and descriptions, these will be used
to return a relevant set of results to you. Alternatively you may
use the product index at the top of all Businessmagnet pages which lists all products and services
alphabetically. Once you have found the required product or service
simply click the link to move on to the supplier.

How are the search results ordered?
Search results are ordered by relevance and priority. The
Businessmagnet search engine works much like a normal search engine,
indexing pages and matching a page to your search criteria. If an
advert has information in abundance about a specific product or
service it will rank well under that particular search. In order to
make a directory search facility successful it is necessary to
return a relevant set of results, otherwise it will be short lived
and fail to provide what the searcher is looking for. In the case of
paid for inclusions the increased content allows the page to rank
better within the results and under the chosen keywords naturally
without force...so long as it is related to the search. Forcing a
company to the top of the results under a non relevant term is a
no-go and is very unhelpful to both the searcher and the advertiser.

Can I make a search for an exact match?
Yes. If you want to return only results that have an exact word
or phrase, simply encapsulate the word or phrase in quotes. For e.g.
if you wanted to return companies that supply compressor parts and
not companies that have compressor and parts within their
description or keywords just surround compressor parts in quotes.
You can also use a wildcard search placing an asterisk after or
before part of a search word or phrase. For e.g. you may only
remember the first part of a company name. So in the case of
Businessmagnet you could type busin* this will return all results
that have a word that starts busin somewhere in their details. The
same could be achieved by using the asterisk before part of a word
e.g. *agnet.

Can I display my companies logo next to our result?
Yes. If you opt for one of our advertising packages we will
display your company logo against your company details within the
search results. The logo will also act as a link direct to your

Can I search using other criteria?
Yes. The Businessmagnet search facility is very sophisticated
allowing the potential customer to make a search on any part of a
companies details including telephone number, fax number, town,
county, postcode and so on.

I've just added my company but it is not in the search results?
Just like a normal search engine the Businessmagnet search
engine will first have to index and cache your newly added page.
This will take up to 24 hrs depending on when your free listing has
been confirmed. usually it is expected that if a companies details are
added and confirmed, the search engine will include that company in
relevant search results the following day.

and to the extent of coverage opted for. The Businessmagnet
Directory can work for any Business but will yield a differing
volume of enquiries depending on the nature of the Business. For
e.g. a company that supplies 'plastic cups' may be more in
demand than a company supplying 'incremental encoders' . Some
businesses sell machinery that costs hundred of thousands of pounds,
a business of this stature will likely receive less enquires than a
company offering low cost high volume products.
