Electrocoating / E-Coat / Electropainting / Electrophoretic Deposition |
Electrocoat also known as E-Coat, Electropainting, EPD, KTL is the method of
adding paint to a conductive substrate. All tier one motor manufacturers use EP
coating as their specification of choice, making it one of the most popular
coatings in the automotive industry.
E-Coat provides high aesthetic appeal, excellent resistance to the oxidative
effects of corrosion (corrosive chemicals and liquids) as well as affording
strong durability.
E-Coating Benefits:
- Great edge coverage.
- 100% component coverage.
- Compatible with various other coating finishes.
- Coating thickness uniformity across the entire part.
- Superb corrosion protection.
- Functionality of threads unaffected.
- Low reject rates thanks to process consistency.
- Single coating that can easily be overcoated.
Powder Coating |
Powder coating works by electrically charging powder particles to apply to a
conductive substrate. The resulting finish offers a high resistance to corrosion
and fading, strong durability to impact and an aesthetically pleasing finish in
a wide range of colours (including metallics).
For many years powder coating has been the finish of choice for conductive
materials, it is often used to coat components for metal office furniture, shop
fittings, automotive parts and accessories, domestic appliances and radiators.
Used extensively for rail (LUL), JCB & Caterpillar and marine industry sectors
and available in a wide variety of (RAL, BS, NCS) colours, gloss levels,
textures, anti-bacterial, anti-graffiti and heat resistant formulations.
Benefits of Powder Coating:
- The finish is visually attractive.
- A variety of textures and colours can be achieved.
- Provides a high resistance to chemicals like antifreeze, petrol, diesel, oil &
battery acid.
- Damage resistant to stone chippings and scratching.
- Extremely durable and anti-weathering.
- Great adhesive qualities when sprayed over electrocoat.
- Shorter lead times and cost effective.
Zinc Flake and Dip Spin Coatings |
Dip spin coatings use a centrifugal force which controls film thickness to apply
a thin coating on small parts. The high rate of basket speed generates force
which allows for an even, consistent coating over a short period of time.
Zinc flake coatings use a combination of specialised base and top coats to
provide a high grade corrosion protection. Zinc flake coatings are often used by
the fastener industry thanks to its durable corrosion resistance and resistance
to brake fluids, petrol and mild chemicals. This coating method is actually the
most cost effective for smaller parts like pressed parts and fasteners.
When comparing zinc flake coating to zinc plating you will find that zinc flake
coating not only lasts longer, but it is more predictable during the application
process and is more resistant to corrosion.
Xylan is highly utilised in gas and oil industry as a dry film lubricant .
Dip-spin painting is a bulk painting operation that can be advantageous in
achieving very low unit costs in anti corrosion finishing of small parts.
Dip Spin & Zinc Flake Coating Benefits:
- Excellent corrosion resistance.
- Full black or silver finish.
- Inorganic top coat provides chemical and high temperature resistance.
- Approved by Tier 1s and OEMs around the world.
- Colour coding enamels.
- Centrifugal stoving paints.
Wet Spray Coating |
Wet spray also known as spray painting allows paint, varnish, ink, etc. to be
sprayed through the air directly onto a surface. The success of wet spray is
dependent upon the pre-treatment process as well as the spraying itself.
We offer three painting options:
- Etch Primer (offers a more functional than decorative coating).
- One Coat Stoving Enamel (offers both a functional & decorative coating).
- Two Part Paint Finish (offers a smooth, decorative & functional finish).
Wet spray has a range of benefits; it is available in a wide range of colours,
it is fully achievable to mask large areas, the process is fast, consistent and
can be applied to almost any surface.
