Ex Made in Chelsea star uses Barnstaple firm to create hi-tech security bracelet out of four-billion-year-old meteorite

ND Precision Products News and PR from ND Precision Products - Published 17 April 2014 A MADE In Chelsea star has chosen a Barnstaple firm to make a hi-tech security bracelet from a four-billion-year-old meteorite.
Richard Dinan, who previously starred in the E4 show, tasked Barnstaple firm ND Precision Products with making the product for his company Senturion Technology Ltd.
The contact was made through James Marchant, of Ion Core Ltd, which is based in North Devon and of which Richard is a director.
The product invented by Senturion offers a keyless entry system in the form of a bracelet.
Richard wanted to create the bracelet using a meteorite which is four-billion-years-old but he was told this could not be done.
“I was told by world meteorite experts that I was wasting my time and it was not possible,” he added.
“Well, ND Precision proved them wrong. The product is like nothing I have ever seen. It is refreshing beauty from the cosmos like nothing else.”
Nick Squire is the managing director of ND Precision Products which was set up by his father David in 1973 and now also employs NickÂ’s sons Dan, Cameron and Luke.
He said the firm had already made three Senturion bracelets after being contacted by James Marchant in the middle of last year.
“Although we had never attempted to cut a meteorite before, I thought it would be an intriguing and exciting project,” said Nick.
Three new Agie Charmilles machines were delivered before Christmas which were used to cut the meteorite.
But the cutting process did not go without its hiccups.
“The meteorite was full of non-conductive matter and was tricky to work with,” said Nick. “Our laser welder played an important role in the manufacturing of the meteorite.”
Nick estimated it took around 30 hours to make one of the bracelets.
Richard said at present they were created on demand.
“They are very complex to machine and four-billion-years-old so we don’t do them unless we have a customer,” he added. “That said, we have 25 orders to fulfil already.”
