Edge protection guardrails for roofs with limited space

Safesite Ltd News and PR from Safesite Ltd - Published 19 June 2015 KeeGuard Premium allows safe access to the roof of Hall & Woodhouse's Portishead pub and restaurant for maintenance of solar panels. The system was the ideal solution for a roof with limited space.
Safesite’s KeeGuard® Premium edge protection system provided the ideal solution for Hall & Woodhouse in Portishead where safe maintenance of plant and equipment including solar panels on the pub & restaurant's roof was required.

Hall & Woodhouse has over 250 pubs and restaurants around the country and brews the award winning Badgers ales. The new Portishead pub & restaurantÂ’s design pays homage to the surrounding areaÂ’s heritage. Situated on the dockside by Portishead Quays Marina, Hall & Woodhouse Portishead is a strikingly modern building, constructed from 28 recycled shipping containers.

The company is committed to reducing its impact on the environment so it installed solar panels on the roof of the Portishead pub & restaurant in order to provide clean energy. As access is required to the roof for general repair purposes as well as to maintain the solar panels, Colin Wood (Project Manager), contacted Safesite for a safe solution.

Following a survey and assessment of the roof areas, Safesite recommended KeeGuard® Premium freestanding guardrail as it was able to deal with the limited space created by the installation of the panels. KeeGuard® Premium provided the perfect solution as it does not require counterweights along the full run of the system. This unique design is ideal for areas where traditional counterweights are unsuitable or potential trip hazards are a concern.

Colin Wood commented on the installation, “Safesite’s KeeGuard® Premium provides perfect protection for anyone working on the roof or solar panels and was able to deal with the limited space we have on the roof. The simplicity of the installation and on-going use and maintenance of the alternative harness systems was a major factor in the decision. There is the further benefit that if we expand the building to include accommodation, the system can simply be taken up and then re-installed onto the new roof.”
