Case Study - Dambuster Whisky Boxes

Polmac (UK) Ltd News and PR from Polmac (UK) Ltd - Published 10 August 2023 On the 16-17 May 1943, 617 Squadron led by Guy Gibson, every small boy's war hero, carried out an audacious bombing raid on three dams in the Ruhr valley, in Germany.
The raid was carried out by Lancaster bombers using the famous 'bouncing bomb' developed by Barnes Wallis that was designed to cause maximum damage to Germanys' factories and power plants in the area. Two dams were destroyed and a third badly damaged.

To commemorate this event and as a tribute to 617 Squadron, Moray Malts & Squadron Malts of Elgin are releasing a special 12 year old Dambuster single cast Macallan whisky.

Moray Malts & Squadron Malts is a well-established and highly reputable bottling company based in Elgin, Scotland.

To progress the project, Iain Aikenhead from Moray Malts contacted Polmac (UK) Ltd in 2022 in connection with supplying wood whisky boxes to accommodate the special Dambusters whisky.

It was agreed that the whisky boxes were to be rectangular, with hinged lids, restrained by two polished brass plated catches. There were to be 2 internal compartments - one to restrain the whisky bottles, using split collars and the second to accommodate a special parchment scroll!

The exterior of the whisky boxes were to have a beautiful, mid brown lacquer stain finish with a complimentary foil block printed, dark red logo and text on the lid. The interior of the whisky boxes were to be left as natural wood.

After agreeing the design, Polmac (UK) Ltd supplied a pre-production sample which was approved. In December 2022 Moray Malts placed and order for 150 Dambuster Boxes and these were successfully delivered in January 2023.
